Nigerian music continued its global rise in 2025, and at the center of this year’s success is Wizkid, who has officially been named the most-streamed Nigerian artiste on Spotify. The announcement came on Wednesday as Spotify released its annual ‘Wrapped’ report, the platform’s detailed breakdown of the year’s biggest songs, artists and albums based on listener data.

For Wizkid, this achievement marks yet another high point in a career defined by longevity, global reach and an ever-evolving sound. His 2024 album Morayo led the charge, becoming the most-streamed album in Nigeria, while also earning the top spot on Apple Music’s year-end rankings for Sub-Saharan Africa. With millions of streams across the continent and strong performance internationally, Morayo has solidified its place as one of the most impactful Afrobeats projects of the year.
Spotify also revealed that Davido’s 5ive came in as Nigeria’s second most-streamed album, rounding out a year where the Afrobeats scene continued to dominate Nigerian listening habits. But it was Davido again who secured the most-streamed song in the country, as his collaboration with Omah Lay, With You, claimed the top spot. The track has been a standout favorite since release and earned both artists widespread acclaim.
Another major highlight in this year’s Wrapped is the rise of emerging voices. Joy Is Coming by Fido took the No. 2 position on the most-streamed songs list, signaling the growing influence of new-school Nigerian talents who are reshaping the sound of today’s Afrobeats and alternative music scenes.
For Burna Boy, the data reinforced his global resonance, with the Grammy-winning artiste maintaining his title as Nigeria’s most-exported artiste. His music continues to travel across borders at a pace unmatched by most of his peers, securing him a strong presence in markets such as the U.S., U.K., Brazil and India. Other globally exported acts include Tems, Rema, Ayra Starr and Wizkid, highlighting the continued international demand for Nigerian music.
Among female artistes, Ayra Starr once again dominated, becoming the most-streamed female artiste in Nigeria for 2025. Her consistency over the past few years has established her as one of the leading female voices of the new Afrobeats wave. Following closely were Tems, Smur Lee, Tiwa Savage, Sunmisola Agbebi and global stars like Rihanna and Billie Eilish, showing that Nigerian listeners continue to enjoy a rich mix of homegrown and international female talent.
The Wrapped lists also revealed interesting trends about listener preferences. Tracks like Arike by Kunmie, Venus by Faceless and Serotonin, and Odumodublvck’s Pity This Boy featuring Victony enjoyed massive streaming numbers, showcasing how diverse Nigerian music consumption has become. Genres such as street-hop, Afropop, R&B, and fusion continue to co-exist on charts, reflecting a generation that embraces multiplicity in sound and style.
Similarly, albums from Asake, BNXN, Odumodublvck and Fola all secured spots in the top 10 most-streamed projects. Asake in particular had a remarkable showing, with three albums; Work of Art, Lungu Boy, and Mr. Money With The Vibe, all ranking within the top tier, proving his enduring popularity.
The 2025 Spotify Wrapped paints a clear picture: Afrobeats remains one of the most dynamic, consumed and influential genres in the world. And within that thriving ecosystem, Wizkid continues to stand at the forefront. With Morayo leading multiple charts and his catalog enjoying sustained relevance, Starboy’s latest milestone is a testament to his deep cultural impact and the loyalty of his fanbase.
As the year closes, Nigerian music finds itself once again in global conversations, breaking barriers and expanding its footprint. And if 2025 is any indication, the momentum is only getting stronger.
