The New York Times named Taylor Swift among its 30 greatest living American songwriters, selected by over 250 music insiders for her originality, influence, and emotional depth alongside Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, and Kendrick Lamar.

Taylor Alison Swift popularly known as Taylor Swift is a famous singer and songwriter, a huge force in global music and an influential figure in pop culture. She is currently the highest grossing live music artist, the wealthiest female musician and one of the best selling singers of all time. Her journey started from childhood in the small city of West Reading Pennsylvania in the United States.

She began writing music at 12 and debuted as a country singer with the albums Taylor Swift (2006) and Fearless (2008). It was rocky and it stretched her at some point in her career, especially transitioning from country music to being a pop girlie but today she is named among one of the greatest to ever do it, and for the New York Times, one of the Greatest Living American Songwriters.

Taylor had a 30-minute sit down interview with Joe Coscarelli where she explained in detail the stories behind her biggest hits, her processes , how being in the public eye has informed the stories she tells in her songs, the fickleness of fame, the scheming and machinations that occur in the music industry, the beauty of her extensive discography plus navigating her art for public perception.

She talks about growing up and the experiences it brought “I have this very strong opinion that when you’re young, you feel things on such an intense and detailed level”. Taylor says

And from hits like “Love Story” to “Clara Bow”, the multiple Grammy award winning artist and chart-topper got candid about moments that led to some of her tracks and the meaning behind some of her best lyrics.

“There are so many different ways that a song begins in my world”. Taylor Swift says

She also gave an insight into the song “Elizabeth Taylor” off her most recent studio album Life of a Showgirl. “I’m riding in the car with Travis”, she began referencing her fiancé, Travis Kelce. “I go on and on in explaining to Travis, like, why I love Elizabeth Taylor so much. She fought for artists’ rights. She was exploited in so many ways, and yet she kept her humanity. She kept her humor. She kept her passion for life.' I was just going on and on.”

The impassioned rant continued, and Swift recalled, “I was like, ‘Her eyes were violet. Some people said they were blue. Some people said they were violet. I think they were violet.' We get home. He gets out of the car and I'm just in my head just this intrusive melody…. And I'm just scrambling to open my record app on my phone.”
The song, which features the lyrics, “I cried my eyes violet, Elizabeth Taylor,” is the second track on the pop star's 12th studio album, which was released in October.

She also talked about writing one of her famous songs “Love Story” when she was angry at her parents for not letting her go on a date with a much older man.

Watching the video or reading the interview just shares more insight to how real life stories shaped Taylor’s songwriting. From childhood, to her parents, to her long list of ex-lovers, to the insanity of the music industry - all these were major inspirations to her songwriting and she’s gone on to make a name for herself in pop music becoming one of the most successful singers and songwriters of all time.

She also opened up about how she had to "piece together" the “All Too Well” 10 minute version which she released in 2021 as part of Red (Taylor's Version).
Swift, now 36, recalled being in a really sad place after the Speak Now tour when she wrote "All Too Well" and began playing the same four chords over and over again.
